Chandni Chowk to China

What happens when you combine Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Mary Poppins and put it into a Bollywood comedy?

It opens internationally on January 16th and will be playing at 2 locations in the DC area (Union Station 9 and Loehmanns Plaza in Falls Church). See the official movie site here.

Katee & Joshua and A Return to Bollywood

Yesterday, I couldn't find any videos of Katee and Joshua dancing from Wednesday night's So You Think You Can Dance. I was sad to find out they got re-partnered on Wednesday's show -- Joshua with Courtney Gliano and Katee with Will Wingfield.

In honor of Katee's and Joshua's wonderful dancing, here is a montage of some of their time greatest moments together:

After Katee and Joshua's incredible Indian dance, Wednesday night's show started with a return to Bollywood -- this time with all ten finalists performing together:

Katee appears to be the viewer's favorite dancer on the show by a wide margin.

Here are Katee and Will's two dances from Wednesday's show:
And Joshua and Courtney's:
I am sad not to see more routines by Katee and Joshua, but it's interesting to see how their talent comes through as they adapt to new dance partners. They both continue to impress.

Bollywood Night: Devdas

Last night, Triya cooked some delicious Indian food for several of us PhD students and gave us the treat of watching a Bollywood movie called Devdas. The movie was a tragic love story, masterfully choreographed with stunning videography. It was full of fantastic song and dance numbers that were all larger than life. The closest analogy I can think of is to some of the best musicals I've seen on Broadway.

Here is one of the scenes with the two heroines dancing together:

And here is montage of this and several other dance scenes from the movie:

Thanks to Triya for being such a wonderful hostess and for a time hanging out with friends!

Bollywood and Peanut Butter Cap'n Crunch

"Hesitating to act because the whole vision might not be achieved, or because others do not yet share it, is an attitude that only hinders progress." -- Gandhi

Speaking of hanging out with friends -- Triya, Ali, and I got together on Friday to watch the Bollywood movie, Swades. It was a great movie about the call many Indian expatriates feel to return home to help make their country a better place. Watching the movie really made Triya homesick for India. (She flew back earlier today and should arrive in India in less than 24 hours.) It made me long for a return to India as well... (See photos of my trip to India.)

Not only did we have lots of spicy Indian snacks, but I also got Triya and Ali to try Peanut Butter Cap'n Crunch for the first time in their lives. All I will say is that the three of us managed to finish off an entire box... I couldn't be more proud!

What a great way to follow Aunt Ruth's Life Lesson #27!

Like an Eagle: Bollywood Dreams

A music video to a fantastic song from the musical "Bombay Dreams". It's shows much of what makes me love Bollywood -- the energy, the enthusiasm, the color, the movement, the romance, the rhythm, the song, the dance, the beauty, the fun!

Not only that, but many are very clean too. They usually don't even kiss...

Watch this video! Whoever made this did a superb job putting together a high-energy video with a great collection of clips from many Bollywood films.

Hungama!

Triya had a bunch of us over to her place on Saturday. She and Ali cooked Indian food for us and we watched the Bollywood movie, "Hungama". A great time was had by all!

As usual, Triya's cooking was out of this world!

Here's a promo for the movie we watched:
