The Daily Dozen

  1. 7 maxims of ultralight travel. This definition of ultralight is traveling with 15 pounds or less. I've made it to each of the 7 continents with only carry-on luggage, but haven't ever met this definition of ultralight. Sounds like a fun challenge! (With my case books and laptop, I'm sure there are days when I carried more than this to law school last year. Unfortunately, heavy bags = unhealthy spines.)
  2. Does adopting new technology have far more to do with signaling that one is technically capable than it has to do with actual productivity gains? As someone who loves technology and worked as an engineer for years, this sounds mostly right to me. As Robert Solo says: "You can see the computer age everywhere but in the productivity statistics." If I remember correctly, Peter Drucker made a similar point.
  3. 10 apps to load on your iPhone for traveling.
  4. Will AIG be the next Terry Schiavo?
  5. Flash mobs, tea parties and Tocqueville.
  6. Apple netbook/eReader rumors grow stronger. Mac sales were down 16% while PC sales were up 22% in February. Is it time for Apple to venture into the netbook market? I hope so!
  7. Must be a virus. Fannie and Freddie are going to pay bonuses too.
  8. The psychology of passive barriers. Why your friends don't save money, eat healthier, or clean their garages.
  9. As jurors turn to the web, mistrials are popping up.
  10. A record number of babies born in the US in 2007.
  11. Fujitsu's color E-book reader. Is it the mobile computer form factor of the future?
  12. Why is mediocrity so common?
