Samsung just announced the release of their Q1 Ultra UMPC. Is this the eBook reader I've been waiting for? With only 4.5 hours of battery life, maybe not, but it is certainly one step closer. With an increased screen resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels, it might be just enough for reading all the articles I have for classes. The $799 price point also puts it in striking distance. If they can get this up to the 24-hour battery life Intel is working on, they might have a winner. Of course, if the HTC Shift came out with the same screen resolution, similar price point, and a 24-hour battery life, that might be even better.
See the Samsung Q1 Ultra product page and read more details here.
I'm finally starting to get excited by all the new Ultra-Mobile PCs coming out, now that screen resolution and battery life are improving. I could see a lot of uses for these for reading, photo storage and manipulation, note-taking, etc. I'd especially appreciate one of these for storing and reading PDF files for school. They'd also be great for travel - particularly if paired with the folding keyboard and bluetooth mouse I mentioned earlier.
As a blogger, this would also make a great tool for live-blogging events and for posting things while on the go, particularly if you got the model with the built-in cellular connection.
