Most Shocking Thing I Read Today

This is very sad (emphasis mine):

It took 400 years to import 12 million African slaves to the New World. In just the past 10 years 30 million people have been trafficked in SE Asia alone. The “people trade” affects at least 4 million humans valued at $10 billion a year. -- Moises Naim

I am very interested as to exactly what purpose these people are being "trafficked" for, and where that 30 million figure comes from. Maybe I'll have to read the book.
