House Season Finale Filmed Entirely With a Canon 5D Mark II

house_slr

The season finale of the TV show House was shot entirely with a Canon DSLR:

House director Greg Yaitanes announced the news on Twitter, then he preceded to take technical questions from the audience. Apparently the 5D was a perfect fit for the "tight spaces" of the finale. They used Canon prime lenses along with the 24-70 and 70-200 zoom and, believe it or not, they didn't use an image stabilization rig of any sort for the non-tripod shots.

The season finale airs on May 17th.

It is truly amazing to think that DSLRs are now able to shoot video that rivals professional quality video cameras.  This technology is bound to only get better and cheaper over time and it is happening at an amazing pace.  Soon, anyone with the time and interest will have professional quality filming capabilities within their grasp.

While I still have a personal preference of still shots over video, I would love to have a high-quality camera capable of shooting both.  With the current technological trends, it looks like it won’t be too long before I get my wish.

For other examples of high quality videos shot with Canon cameras, check out the Hayek vs. Keynes economics rap video I posted earlier and the short film, The Last 3 Minutes.
