Really, when you think about it, for a large percentage of the market, a netbook is all someone really needs.
For many average consumers, all they want to do is surf the net, do email, maybe a little bit of word processing...and a netbook will suffice. Add in the greater portability, and a netbook can easily replace a laptop for many users.
1) Will the weak economy spur even more migration to the netbook market, as more and more consumers opt for the lower priced equipment?
2) If the first point holds true, how much longer can Apple hold out and not release a netbook?
3) My own personal anecdote: when I am away from home, what I value most is being able to access the web. The mobile Safari web browser on the iPhone is so good, and 3G is also so good, that in most cases an iPhone will suffice. Again, I caution that this is just my own personal experience, and not necessarily indicative of the overall market.
