On a more serious note, there is no such thing as truly free markets like there is no such thing as truly free societies. It would be anarchy.
We can have freedom to the extent that we have moral and social capital. As long as human nature is flawed, we will never have total freedom.
This past week has also exploded myths about the Republican party: they are not the party for fiscal conservatism or free markets. Treasury Sec Paulson might as well be called Kommissar.
And where's our President in all of this? He's faded into the background, like during Katrina. Quite frankly, it's been a pathetic leadership response. As some have quipped, thank God we have President Paulson.
