Here are a few reasons why I love GMU. Incoming PhD student Will Luther shares more.
Below is what US News had to say:
As one of Virginia's largest public institutions, George Mason University offers all the excitement of a large residential college campus, while offering small class sizes and individual attention from faculty and staff members. On-campus facilities include a world class performing arts center and a 10,000 person concert and basketball arena. George Mason University's outstanding faculty includes Nobel laureates, Pulitzer Prize winners, elected officials, as well as experts from D.C. area think tanks and research facilities, offering students research opportunities with the leaders in their fields. Mason also boasts an intensely global student body, with students from over 130 countries and all 50 states, and over 85 native languages spoken on campus. My blog is still the #1 hit on Google if you search for "I love GMU".
Established in 1972, Mason is a relatively young university. Not bound by tradition and old ways of thinking, the university and its faculty embrace technology and new approaches to learning. Mason was the first university in the country to offer doctoral programs in conflict resolution, bioinformatics, computational social sciences, and information technology; and the first to offer a graduate degree in biodefense. Mason was also the first to start an engineering school that focused on information technology rather than the traditional engineering sciences. Mason has added 30 new degree programs in the past few years, including advanced degrees in climate dynamics, information security, and neuroscience; as well as undergraduate degrees in conflict analysis and resolution and global affairs.
