Until McCain tell us how he intends to pay for an open ended war in Iraq, he can never lay claim to being for smaller govt.
The reality about the Iraq war is that it is the first war that the American people have never been asked to pay for, yet it cannot continue indefinitely. However, that is unfortunately McCain's strategy.
McCain wants us to continue fighting in Iraq until circumstances become so good that we can remain there anyway. He owes everyone an explanation of just how he would pay for this, as well as a realistic expectation of progress. We have not heard either.
We all need to keep in mind that a war is the biggest and costliest govt program around. If it is truly worth fighting, then the case needs to be made to pay for it.
But the fact that this case has not been made speaks very poorly of its purpose.
