Traveling With Photo Gear

Here are some great videos by photographer Chase Jarvis showing how to expertly travel with photo gear. I couldn't stop drooling over all the equipment these guys have! I would so love to learn how to take pictures like they do.

Here's the shorter (10-minute) video:

Seattle photographer Chase Jarvis (whose background music is always kosher) gets all logistical in his latest video, showing how he and his group roll with all of their gear. The video above is the short version, clocking in at ~10 mins or so, and hits the basics.

If you want a master class in the logistics of transporting still, lighting, video, misc. gear and the like, be it by car, plane, expediter or donkey (seriously) hit the jump for the long form. In addition to being much more informative, it is half an hour of pure gear [extravaganza].

And the longer (30-minute) version:

In these videos, they also mention another (3-minute) video where they show their modified laptop case for their 15-inch MacBook Pro. Very cool! Especially their idea for how to extend their battery life.

While I haven't traveled with anywhere near so much photo equipment, I have done quite a bit of traveling myself and have some travel ideas of my own. I am extremely impressed with their ideas and the amount of preparation and foresight they have in their equipment selection. In particular, they have a large degree of redundancy in everything from hard drives to camera bodies. These guys seem to have thought of everything!

Be sure to check out Chase's blog for much, much more..
