Remembering Ruth Graham

Ruth Graham (Billy Graham's wife) passed away on June 14th at age 87. I never knew as much about her as I did about Billy Graham, but have heard nothing but great things about her over the years.

The Billy Graham Association had an online memorial for Ruth, including her biography and obituary.

John and Noel Piper both share their thoughts on Ruth's passing.

Everything Alabama has this collection of rememberances (HT Gina Dalfonzo):

A look at remembrances of Ruth Bell Graham, Presbyterian wife of famed Baptist Billy Graham, who died Thursday at age 87. The articles are filled with the biographical details you'd expect, as well as some humorous recollections.

Marshall Shelley, for example, notes in Christianity Today:

Ruth was known for being a woman of grace but also of outspoken forthrightness and wit.

When asked if she and her husband always agreed on everything, she said, "My goodness, no! If we did, there would be no need for one of us!"

When Ruth answered the phone one day, the caller asked, "Is Billy handy?" She retorted, "Not very. But he keeps trying."

The New York Times
The Washington Post

The Washington Post has this photo gallery of her life and there is additional coverage over at Newsweek.

The Herald Online had this article entitled Women Behind the Men Deserve Some, Too. If Ruth were alive, my guess is that she would say all the goes to God.

The Christian world is saying good-bye to a truly great lady.
