Taxes Around the World

Greg Mankiw:

TaxProf and the Citizens for Tax Justice note that "in all but two OECD countries, taxes make up a larger percentage of gross domestic product (GDP) than in the United States." That may be one reason Americans work harder.

The US has lower taxes but what do we lose? We are the only ones without Universal Health Care; our pensions are lower than many of the other countries; our housing is not subsidized; our broadband is not supported. I would gladly pay more taxes if it meant I had the services that most of those other countries provide.
