Here's a website I stumbled upon with facts about all the major world religions and belief systems:
Religious inquiry is something that nearly all humans share in common. In all corners of the world and in all eras of history, people have wondered about the meaning of life, how to make the best of it, what happens afterwards, and if there is anything or anyone "out there."
The goal of this website is to provide free, reliable information — "just the facts" — on the various answers that have been given to these near-universal questions, as well as the rituals and customs that go along with them.
This broad definition means that we have articles on a wide variety of religions (both ancient and modern), but also "ways of life" like philosophies, modern mind-body teachings, and even anti-religious systems like Epicureanism and modern atheism.
ReligionFacts does not promote any one religion or belief system nor even a particular view of religion. Our only "value statements" are these: (1) religion is interesting; (2) knowledge is good. These two opinions led to the creation of ReligionFacts in 2004.
Here's a sampling of the religions they profile:
- Bahá'í Faith - Building a global faith
- Buddhism - Meditation and mindfulness
- Cao Dai - Syncretistic Vietnamese faith
- Christianity - Followers of Christ
- Christian Science - Spiritual healing
- Hinduism - Ancient religion of India
- Islam - Submission to God
- Jainism - Nonviolence to all beings
- Jehovah's Witnesses - Proclaiming the Kingdom
- Judaism - Ancient faith of Abraham
- Mayan Religion - new! - Astronomy and human sacrifice
- Rastafari - Messianic religion of Jamaica
- Scientology - "Spiritual technology"
- Shinto - Ancient Japanese religion
- Taoism - Following the Way
- Wicca - Earth-based faith
See A-Z Religion Index for a full list.
Also offered are religious resources:
- What is Religion? - Definitions and quotes
- Big Religion Chart - Handy comparison of 25+ faiths
- Religious Topics and Issues
Jesus, celebrity religion, euthanasia, homosexuality, Da Vinci Code
I'm still exploring the site, but it looks like it a good source for overview information on many belief systems around the world.
