Here is a neat graphic showing economic growth and advances in life expectancy. You can use the tool here to illustrate a variety of fascinating scatterplots.

It's a great interactive graph showing the approximately linear relationship between GDP per capita and life expectancy. It also shows how it has trended and converged among the various countries since 1975. Life expectancy and GDP per capita has grown in nearly all non-African countries during my lifetime.
Unfortunately, Africa is being left behind. This Friday is my birthday. It is both very sad and sobering to think that if I was an average man in Botswana, I'd be dead by now.
