The Orion Nebula

Tom's Astronomy Blog:

This time of year the Great Orion Nebula becomes a feature early in the night sky, early being the key word. The Spitzer and Hubble Telescopes were used to produce this image of the Orion Nebula. The timing of this image is right on.

Always a favorite of mine, especially on those cold clear winter nights, from here it is plainly visible. I like to put the scope on the “Trapezium” a group of four new hot stars in the center of the nebula and see how many can of them can I resolve at how low a magnification tonight – a test of seeing of sorts.

In this image the Trapezium stars are shining bright right in the center where I would expect them (just in case you didn’t know), it seems much of what gives the nebula its features such as shape etc is because of the Trapezium stars and their winds.
