Nobel Prize in Economics Tomorrow

Tomorrow, the Nobel committee will announce this year's winner of the Nobel Prize in Economics. Everyone here at GMU is rooting for Gordon Tullock. (That would bring us up to three Nobel Laureates on our faculty, tying us for third place with MIT.)

Greg Mankiw and Tyler Cowen share their thoughts on what they think the criterion should be. The WSJ offers their speculation on the winners and Thomson Scientific gives their predictions. Don Boudreaux gives his list of people who are now dead, but should have gotten the prize. Tyler Cowen gives his predictions for this year and here is an index of the top 1,000 economists by citations.

More on Gordon Tullock here and a link to his GMU webpage. Professor Tullock is also world famous for his insults. Rumor has it that he likes you, he will insult you. I remember the first time I got insulted by him. I went home feeling extra good that day!

Good luck to Professor Tullock!

Mostly little ones. I once passed him in the hallway and said: "Hi, Professor Tullock. It's good to see you." He replied: "Well it's never good to see you!"

Another time I was sitting in his class when he said: "Most monarchs throughout history have tended to be above average intelligence." He quickly followed up with: "Of course some of them were way below average." I laughed at his second comment and without skipping a beat, he looked at me and said: "You'd fit right in, wouldn't you?" :)
