Very Sad News

I received this very sad e-mail from Don Boudreaux, chairman of GMU's econ department, this morning about the unexpected passing of Janet Byrd:

Colleagues,

Many of you have already heard the very sad news of the unexpected passing of Janet Byrd, long-time administrative anchor of the Center for Study of Public Choice. For those of you who are hearing only now, Janet passed away late Friday night.

She was too young to go.

This news has me, as I know it has many of you, especially dumb-struck. In one capacity or another, I've worked with Janet for 15 years. She was not only enormously capable and hard-working, she was a dear and wonderful friend.

We will hold a memorial service for Janet at 3:00pm in Carow Hall on Thursday, April 27th. Janet's two children will be there. Please do attend to show your respects to someone whom the Center will find impossible to replace.

Don

Although I didn’t know her very well, Janet was always a delightful lady and was a tremendous help to me on more than one occasion. Her smiling face and graciousness will be surely missed.

My heart and prayers go out to Janet's family and loved ones.

As Dr. Boudreaux mentioned in his e-mail, there will be a memorial service for Janet in Carrow Hall on Thursday, April 27th at 3:00 PM.

P.S. -- My classmate, Michael Thomas, pays a very nice tribute to Janet.
