Here’s how Kathryn describes herself and her music (emphasis mine):
Be sure to listen to Kathryn’s songs and I’m sure you’ll be as impressed by her as I am. I get to hear her perform in person in a couple of weeks -- I cannot wait!!!
i think i have been watching people since i was very young, trying to figure out how they work. when i lived in Boston, i loved to sit on the T and drink in the colorful variety of passengers. everyone has their own story. sometimes i wondered about the people on the train...how their stories have unfurled and how it was that we all came together at a particular moment. amidst different choices, triumphs and tragedies, we all make our way through this thing called life. a turning point in my story took place when i was in eighth grade. one of my closest friends suddenly died. that week i wrote my first song. since then, songwriting has been the primary way i process my life. music is the language i know best. it communicates to me and resonates in my spirit more deeply than any other medium. music has helped to carry me through some of my most difficult chapters. i host an open stage at a club in pittsburgh and the people that show up never cease to amaze me. if there is one thing i have learned, it is that people are hungry to be known. people want to be heard, people want to be loved...but most of all, people want to tell their story. so i listen. i listen to songwriters night after night telling their stories, singing their lives. i suppose that is ultimately why i write. it is my hope that one of my songs will connect to someone else's experience so that we can share our stories. music is, beyond a shadow of a doubt, the universal language of man.
Noah, you are indeed a lucky man!
